Pixel Watch 4 at $279.99 Undercuts Google’s Own Sequel

Amazon has the 45mm Pixel Watch 4 in Moonstone at $279.99, $120 off list, while the same-size Pixel Watch 5 still opens at $429.

Amazon has the 45mm Pixel Watch 4 in Moonstone at $279.99, $120 under the $399.99 list, after Google put Pixel Watch 5 on shelves at $429. Both watches now run Wear OS 7, and they still share the same 3,000-nit dome.

The older watch is software-current. The new one costs $149 more in the same size. That gap is the joke, and it is also the deal.

The $279.99 Moonstone Listing

The cut is on Amazon’s 45mm Moonstone Wi-Fi listing, the larger Bluetooth/Wi-Fi case with the satin Moonstone aluminum shell and matching Active Band. List is $399.99. The math is a clean $120, which is 30% off.

Deal posts on September 13 and 14 called it the lowest price this configuration has seen. In June, Amazon’s Prime Day tag on the 45mm Wi-Fi watch was $319.99, so this pass sits $40 under that earlier low. The 41mm Wi-Fi watch was $289.99 in that same June sale.

THE AMAZON 45MM CUT

  • Sale price: $279.99 for the 45mm Moonstone Wi-Fi model.
  • List price: $399.99, the figure Google used when this size launched.
  • Saving: $120, or 30% off that list.
  • Watch 5 gap: $149 under the 45mm Pixel Watch 5, which Google priced at $429.

Moonstone was a 45mm color from day one, not a leftover oddball SKU. You still get the Quick Charge Dock in the box, small and large Active Bands, and the same sensor stack Google shipped in October 2025.

WHAT STILL COMES ON THE WATCH 4

  • The panel: Actua 360 LTPO AMOLED at up to 3,000 nits, 320 ppi, 1-60 Hz, with Gorilla Glass 5.
  • The cell: 455 mAh in 45mm, with Google’s 40-hour always-on claim and 72 hours in Battery Saver.
  • The dock: about 15 minutes to 50%, 30 minutes to 80%, 60 minutes to a full 45mm charge, and 15 hours back from a 15-minute top-up.
  • The body: 45 x 45 x 12.3 mm, 36.7 g without the band, IP68 and 5 ATM, recycled aluminum.
  • The radios: Bluetooth 6, dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, UWB, and dual-frequency GPS, with LTE sold as a separate SKU.

A 41mm LTE model has been sitting at $329.99 against a $449.99 list on Amazon, which is a different product with a cellular radio. The $279.99 watch is Wi-Fi only. Keep the phone nearby for calls and texts.

Google Store Already Sells the 41mm for $229.99

Amazon is not the only desk clearing last year’s watch. Google’s own store, under a 28-year birthday offer, lists the 41mm Wi-Fi model at $229.99. That size listed at $349.99. The cut is another $120.

Against Pixel Watch 5, that smaller Watch 4 is $169 under the new 41mm, which Google priced at $399. The Store still shows LTE starting much higher, and it is dangling up to $100 back on an eligible watch or tracker trade-in.

So the “steal” is not a one-shop glitch. Google is discounting the line it just replaced, while the replacement holds launch pricing. Shoppers who only want the larger dome still have to go through Amazon for $279.99. Shoppers who can live with 41mm can pay $229.99 and stay inside Google’s checkout.

What $149 Extra Buys on Pixel Watch 5

The $149 gap between Amazon’s 45mm Watch 4 and Google’s 45mm Watch 5 buys 1 GB of extra RAM, 32 GB more storage, a Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated chip that Google says is 20% quicker, on-device Gemini Nano for simple offline commands, and Google’s claim of twice the GPS accuracy on hard urban routes.

Munjal Shah, senior product manager for Pixel Watch, put the new hardware on sale in August with those figures attached.

Pixel Watch 5 is available for pre-order starting August 12 and will be on shelves August 20, starting at $399 (41mm) and $429 (45mm).

Munjal Shah, Senior Product Manager, Pixel Watch, Google blog

Google’s Watch 5 post lists the watch starting at $399 and $429, and it says the new chip adds 50% more RAM and a 12% CPU bump for that 20% speed claim. The 45mm cell moves from 455 mAh to 465 mAh, a 10 mAh bump. The 41mm cell moves from 325 mAh to 332 mAh, a 7 mAh bump. Rated life does not change: 40 hours with always-on on 45mm, 30 hours on 41mm, and the same Battery Saver ceilings.

The glass, the 3,000-nit peak, the crown, the 12.3 mm thickness, and the 31.0 g / 36.7 g weights match. Charging times match. The sensor list matches, down to cEDA, ECG, SpO2, and the far-field skin temperature sensor. Health Guardian trend reports for blood pressure, sleep breathing, and insulin resistance are rolling across older Pixel watches too, so those screens are a weak reason to pay $429.

At matched list prices, paying up for the 5 is a small step. At $279.99, the step is $149, and most of what you see on the wrist is last year’s watch with this year’s software.

Wear OS 7 Reached the Older Watch in June

Google began rolling Wear OS 7 to Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Watch 4 in June 2026, two months before Pixel Watch 5 took pre-orders. Live Updates, new widgets, and the newer Gemini look landed on hardware people already owned. The Watch 4 did not sit on last year’s OS while the 5 debuted.

That timing is why $279.99 stings if you paid $399.99, and why it sings if you waited. You are not buying a frozen 2025 build. You are buying a watch that already took the 2026 software train, then got marked down after the sequel arrived.

Google’s 40-hour rating on 45mm is the figure that still matters on the wrist, because the 5 does not promise a longer day. The 45mm Watch 4 uses a 455 mAh cell, the side dock, and the same 15-minute run to 50%. Fast charging was the trait reviewers would not shut up about last fall, and it did not move.

Some Watch 4 owners who tried Pixel Watch 5 sent the new unit back. The case, the dome, and the daily Fitbit-style coaching loop felt like the watch they already had. A Watch 3 owner who jumped to the 5 said he would have stayed put if a Watch 4 had already been on his wrist. The coaching and the health pings do the work. The new aluminum does not.

Pixel Watch 3 Dropped Below $200 After Watch 4

Google has run this play before. When Pixel Watch 4 was weeks from sale in 2025, the Watch 3 Wi-Fi 41mm was in big-box listings at $199 and the 45mm at $249. A month after Watch 4 shipped, the 45mm Watch 3 Wi-Fi model had been spotted at $199.99. Last-gen Pixel watches do not linger at list once the next dome is on a poster.

THE PRICE PATH INTO THIS SALE

  1. August 20, 2025: Google announces Pixel Watch 4 at Made by Google, with 41mm at $349.99 and 45mm at $399.99.
  2. October 9, 2025: Pixel Watch 4 goes on sale in the United States.
  3. June 2026: Wear OS 7 rolls out to Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4. Amazon’s Prime Day tags hit $289.99 (41mm Wi-Fi) and $319.99 (45mm Wi-Fi).
  4. August 12, 2026: Pixel Watch 5 opens for pre-order at $399 and $429.
  5. August 20, 2026: Pixel Watch 5 reaches shelves.
  6. September 13, 2026: Amazon’s 45mm Moonstone Wi-Fi Watch 4 is $279.99, $120 under list.

Eleven months after the US launch, the 45mm Watch 4 is 30% off. People who bought it at $399.99 now watch a $120 haircut on the same color. People who sat out last October get Wear OS 7, the bright dome, and the fast dock without paying Google’s new $429 sticker.

The Chip That Keeps Gemini On-Device

The honest extra on Watch 5 is not the case. It is local AI. Pixel Watch 5 can run Gemini Nano on the wrist for short jobs such as a timer, a workout start, or a settings toggle, even with no phone and no network. Pixel Watch 4 still has Gemini, including Raise to Talk, but those simple commands need a connection. On a run with the phone in a locker, that difference is real.

Google also says Watch 5 GPS is twice as accurate as the previous generation in tough streets, using map-side 3D building models and live weather stations to correct satellite paths. Watch 4 already shipped with dual-frequency GPS. The 5 is a refinement of a radio that was not a weak point.

SoundsNerdy’s nine-review stack on Pixel Watch 5 landed at 81.6, with eight of those reviews at 80. Pixel Watch 4 still sat at 87 on that same board, and the write-up called $399 steep for a minor step. That was at Watch 5’s own launch price, before Amazon put last year’s 45mm at $279.99.

Storage is the quiet extra. 64 GB against 32 GB matters if you park offline playlists and maps on the watch. 3 GB of RAM is what Google is using to keep Nano resident. If you never talk to the watch without LTE or a phone in your pocket, you are paying $149 for headroom you may not touch.

Galaxy Watch 9 Already Sits Near $300

The $279.99 Watch 4 does not sit in a vacuum. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 9 opened at $379 for the 40mm Bluetooth model, then showed up in September promotions near $300. Apple Watch SE 3 still lists from $249 for 40mm GPS. Those are different apps, different coaches, and different phone lock-ins. They are also the prices a shopper actually tabs between at this budget.

Watch 4 at $279.99 undercuts a current Samsung flagship that launched higher, and it sits $30.99 above Apple’s cheaper SE 3. You get Wear OS 7, Fitbit-derived health tools, a 3,000-nit dome, and Google Wallet on a Pixel-friendly wrist. You do not get Watch 5’s offline Nano, and you do not get Apple’s iPhone-only stack.

Google still wants $429 for the 45mm Pixel Watch 5. Amazon wants $279.99 for the Moonstone Watch 4 that shares its glass, its sensors, and its OS. The sequel kept the design and raised the ticket. The leftover kept the software and lost $120.
