One inbox, read by the newsroom

Everything reaches AKRON SCORE at support@akronscore.org. It is the only address we publish and the only one we stand behind. It is read and sorted by people on the editorial team, not by a bot and not by an outsourced help desk. We deliberately run no maze of department aliases, because on a team this size they only create places for mail to go quietly unanswered.

You will reach the right person faster if you put the purpose at the front of the subject line. CORRECTION, TIP, PITCH, ADVERTISING or PRIVACY is all we need to route your message. If you are writing about a specific article, paste the link rather than retyping the headline.

Corrections and complaints about coverage

If we have published something factually wrong, write with CORRECTION in the subject, include the link, and quote the exact sentence you are disputing. Names, figures and dates are what we most often get wrong and most want to hear about. Our corrections policy explains what happens once your message lands and how quickly.

Complaints about a headline you think oversold the story, or about framing you consider unfair, go to the same inbox. Where we can, we route them to an editor who had no hand in the piece. If you want a reply rather than a silent edit, say so, and you will get one.

Story tips, including the confidential kind

Good tips are the most valuable mail we receive. Tell us what you saw, where, and when, and send the document if you have it rather than a description of it. A specific claim we can check beats a sweeping one we cannot.

If passing something to us could put your job or your safety at risk, protect yourself first. Write from a personal account on a personal device, and make CONFIDENTIAL the first word of your subject line so the message is handled that way from the moment it arrives. We will reply to arrange a secure channel before you send anything sensitive. We do not identify sources to anyone, advertisers and lawyers included.

Pitches, advertising and legal

Freelance pitches are welcome. Two or three paragraphs is plenty: what the story is, who you can talk to, and what it will take. Send press releases as plain text in the body of the email, because we do not open unsolicited attachments. Advertising and partnership enquiries go to the same address with ADVERTISING in the subject and are handled on the business side, away from the desk that would cover you; details are on our advertise page. For data requests or legal notices, write with PRIVACY in the subject and see our privacy policy.

We deal with corrections the day we read them and aim to answer everything else within two working days. If a week passes with no reply, resend. And we will never ask you to trust a social media account as ours. If one claims to speak for AKRON SCORE, check with this inbox first.
