Comment Policy
Last updated: 10 June 2026
Good comment sections are rare, and they are rare because they take rules. This page is ours. By commenting on akronscore.org, you agree to it.
The spirit of the thing
Comments exist so readers can add context, challenge our reporting, and argue with each other in good faith. The best comment sections make the journalism better. Disagree with anything we publish, sharply if you like, but aim at the argument, not the person.
What gets removed
We moderate comments, and we remove anything that is:
- Abusive: harassment, threats, name-calling, or pile-ons directed at anyone, including other commenters and the people in our stories
- Hateful: attacks on people for their race, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality, or disability
- Defamatory: unproven accusations against named, identifiable people
- Spam: promotional links, repeated postings, off-topic plugs, and anything posted by a bot
- Dangerous: doxxing, incitement, or instructions for causing harm
- Deceptive: impersonation of other people, of public figures, or of AkronScore staff
What does not get removed
- Criticism of AkronScore, our reporting, or our editor. Pointing out our mistakes is a public service, and our Corrections Policy exists for exactly that.
- Unpopular opinions argued in good faith
- Strong language within reason, when it is doing real work in the sentence
Moderation in practice
- Comments may be reviewed before or after publication, depending on the tools in use
- Repeat offenders are banned, and ban evasion makes the ban permanent
- Moderation decisions are about conduct, never about viewpoint
Corrections belong in our inbox too
If your comment points out a factual error, thank you. Consider also emailing support@akronscore.org with “CORRECTION” in the subject so it enters our formal corrections process and gets fixed in the article itself, not just discussed below it.
Your content
You own your comments, and you grant us a license to display and moderate them, as set out in our Terms of Use. You are responsible for what you write.
Appeals
Think we removed your comment unfairly? Email support@akronscore.org with “FEEDBACK” in the subject line and a moderation decision will get a second look from a human.
