DMCA and Copyright
Last updated: 10 June 2026
AkronScore respects intellectual property rights. We expect the same of others, and we respond promptly to valid copyright notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and equivalent laws elsewhere.
Our approach to copyrighted material
As a news publication, we quote brief excerpts from and link to copyrighted material for reporting, commentary, and criticism. We believe this constitutes fair use. We always attribute, we always link to the original, and we never republish another outlet’s full work. If you are a publisher and believe we have used your work beyond fair use, you do not need a formal notice to reach us; a plain email to support@akronscore.org will get a fast, good-faith review.
Filing a formal takedown notice
If you believe content on akronscore.org infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@akronscore.org with “DMCA” in the subject line. For your notice to be valid under the DMCA, it must include:
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
- The exact URL on akronscore.org where the allegedly infringing material appears
- Your name, mailing address, email address, and phone number
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf
- Your physical or electronic signature
What happens after we receive a notice
We review valid notices promptly, usually within five business days. Where a claim is substantiated, we remove or disable access to the material and note the removal. Where a notice is incomplete, we will tell you what is missing. Knowingly filing a false claim can expose you to liability under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, so please be sure before you file.
Counter-notices
If material you posted was removed and you believe the removal was a mistake or misidentification, you may file a counter-notice to the same address. A valid counter-notice must include:
- Identification of the removed material and the URL where it previously appeared
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification
- Your name, address, and phone number
- Consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court in your district, or your district of residence if outside the United States, and agreement to accept service of process from the original complainant
- Your physical or electronic signature
Repeat infringers
Where the Site accepts outside contributions, we terminate access for repeat infringers.
