Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information AkronScore (“we,” “us,” “the Site”) collects when you visit akronscore.org, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We have written it in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email us and we will explain it properly.
The short version
We collect the minimum needed to run a news website: standard technical data, analytics, and whatever you choose to send us by email. We use cookies for site function, audience measurement, and advertising. We do not sell your personal information, and we never will.
Information we collect automatically
When you visit the Site, our servers and analytics tools record standard technical data:
- IP address and approximate location (city or region level)
- Browser type and version
- Device type and operating system
- Pages visited, time spent, and the site that referred you
This data helps us understand readership, keep the Site secure, and diagnose technical problems. It is not used to identify you personally.
Information you give us
If you email us, submit a form, or leave a comment, we receive what you send, typically a name, an email address, and your message. We use it only to respond to you and to maintain a record of the conversation. We do not add you to mailing lists without your explicit consent.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We use three kinds:
- Essential cookies that make the Site function, such as remembering preferences
- Analytics cookies that measure traffic and reading patterns in aggregate
- Advertising cookies set by our ad partners to serve and measure ads

Advertising
We display ads served by third-party partners, which may include Google. These vendors may use cookies, including the Google advertising cookie, to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Two useful opt-out links:

Advertising pays for the journalism on this Site, but advertisers receive no personal data from us and have no access to our editorial process.
Analytics
We use third-party analytics services to understand how visitors use the Site, in aggregate. These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We configure analytics for privacy where the option exists, including IP anonymization where supported.
Embedded content
Articles sometimes embed videos, social media posts, or charts from other platforms. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the originating website, which may collect data about you under its own policy. We recommend reviewing the policies of platforms you interact with.

What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information
- We do not share your data with advertisers
- We do not send marketing email without consent
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13, or the applicable age in your region
Data retention
Server logs and analytics data are retained only as long as needed for the purposes above, then deleted or aggregated. Email correspondence is kept as long as needed to handle the matter, then archived or deleted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in Europe and the CCPA in California, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, email support@akronscore.org with “PRIVACY” in the subject line. We respond within 30 days and we do not discriminate against anyone for exercising their rights.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect the data we hold, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the entire Site. No internet service can promise perfect security, but we keep our data footprint deliberately small, which is the best protection there is.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted prominently on the Site.
